Green light given for redevelopment of Homebase site

27 February 2015

Plans for the redevelopment of the Homebase site at The Hyde, in Hendon have been given the green light after councillors voted in favour of the project on Wednesday 24th February.

A joint venture between NEAT Developments and DTZ Investors, the project will deliver a total of 386 new homes and 15,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and commercial space. Included in the commercial offering, a new business workspace the ‘Hendon Hub” will be delivered, catering for entrepreneurs and creating jobs in the local area. The proposal features significant public realm improvements, as well as space for a GP’s surgery and a café fronting onto a landscaped public piazza.

Of the 386 new homes, 20% will be affordable. Each home will benefit from a high specification design, set within a landscaped public realm that will turn the currently unattractive site into a desirable place to live.

Joe Crawley, Managing Director of NEAT Developments commented: "We are delighted that Barnet Planning Committee recognised the benefits that our development will bring to the local area, which will transform the area into an attractive and vibrant place to live. In addition, amenities such as the ‘Hendon Hub’ will help to create a community of entrepreneurs and dynamic start-ups in the local area.”

Recently identified by Brent council as one of four ‘Corridors of Change’, The Edgware Road is undergoing extensive regeneration to create high quality developments, local services, improved transport and access to enhanced green space and leisure facilities over the next 10 years.

Spanning 3.6 acres, the site is located on the Edgware Road, opposite The Hyde School. Currently occupied by a large Homebase and second hand car sales lot.

The site at The Hyde, in Hendon represents the second development by innovative London developer, NEAT. Launched in June 2014, NEAT’s debut project, TNQ also sits on The Edgware Road and will deliver 460 new homes in partnership with Royal London Asset Management (RLAM)
